Stephen was born in West Bromwich in 1892, the son of George and Mary Ann Hill. By 1901, they had moved to 14 Ash Street, Wolverhampton, and Stephen was living there with his parents and siblings Lilian and George. They were at 82 Ash Street by 1911, and Stephen was working as a railway clerk for the London & North Western Railway. There was an additional sibling, Reginald.
Stephen enlisted in the 1/14th Battalion of the London Regiment (service number 8553, later 514328). Unfortunately he was killed in action on 11 May 1917. He is remembered on the Arras Memorial in France, as well as on that of the Trinity Wesleyan Church in Compton Road.
