The son of John Richard and Florrie Baker, John was born in Wolverhampton in 1922. On the 1939 register, one record is redacted at the address of 3 Oxley Avenue, Bushbury, which is believed to be that of John Baker, as his parents and sister Winifred are listed at that address.
John enlisted with the Royal Air Force Volunteer Reserve 21 Squadron (service number 1581241) as a Flight Sergeant. Unfortunately the Mosquito he was flying in spun into the ground out of cloud during formation practice, and crashed at Tollgate, south of Gravesend Aerodrome in Kent, and John died on 2 May 1944. He is buried at Bushbury St Mary’s Churchyard.
