Stanley was born on 6 May 1921 in Shifnal, presumably illegitimately, as his mother’s maiden name is given as Reeves. He is listed as being the adopted son of Leonard William and Florence Daisy Reeves, so presumably family members took him in. In 1939, they are living at 28 Beech Road, Wolverhampton, along with George H. Reeves, and Stanley was working as a rubber worker in the tyre industry.
Stanley served with the Royal Navy and became an Able Seaman (service number P/SSX33980) on the HMS Fidelity. Unfortunately on the night of 1 January 1943, the ship was crossing the Atlantic when it was attacked by two U-boats, and Stanley was killed in action. He is remembered on the Portsmouth Naval Memorial, as well as on the memorial of Goodyear Tyre and Rubber Company, which was presumably his employer.
