Three of the sons of George and Elizabeth Till served during the First World War. These were Thomas Mullard, George and or Frank. In 1901, the family were living in Brewood. By 1911, they were at New Buildings, Stafford Road, Coven Heath, near Wolverhampton.
Thomas Mullard was born in Codsall, Staffordshire, on 28 May 1881. He was a blacksmith in 1901 and 1911. In October 1914, Thomas enlisted with the Royal Field Artillery (number 15856). His trade came in useful as he became a Farrier Corporal, and served until he was invalided to England on 19 June 1917. He was later a Shoeing Smith in the Army Service Corps, and was demobilised in 1919. He married Helen Elizabeth Mann in 1919. They had a daughter, Elsie M., born in Cannock in 1924, and a daughter Edna Mullard in 1925, who sadly died a year later. He died in 1947 in Stafford.
George was born on 20 October 1885 in Featherstone, Staffordshire. He was an agricultural labourer in 1901. George enlisted in the 2nd Battalion of the Duke of Wellington’s (West Riding) Regiment (service number 306714), and he, too, survived the war. He married Agnes E. Sleith in Cannock in 1920, and the couple had three children – Frank G. (1920), Janet A. (1922) and Arthur W. (1925). George died in Wolverhampton in 1963.
Frank was bon in 1899 in Coven, Staffordshire. Frank enlisted as a Private with the South Staffordshire Regiment (number 36114), and later transferred to the South Lancashire Regiment (number 64140). He survived the war, and married Gladys Painter in 1929 in Cannock. The couple had a daughter, Audrey in 1939 in Coven, Staffordshire. Frank died in 1992 in Coven.
