George was born in Cannock on 12 January 1896. The son of William John and Emily Mary Allsop, they were living at Halfway House, Bushbury, in 1901 (although their surname was written as “Alsopp”), along with sisters Ellen Emily and Beatrice May, and brother, Henry Thomas. They were at the same address in 1911. George had an additional three siblings (Horace William, Lilian Mary and Bertha). George was working on the Shellac bench at the Electric Construction Company in Bushbury.
On 21 February 1913, he started working as a Cleaner at Bushbury Station for the London & North Western Railway. On 25 May 1915 he was cautioned for a “mishap” at Aston Shed on 19 May. He was dismissed on 16 August 1915 “for moving engine in steam & causing mishap at B’bury Shed” on 10 August.
George enlisted with the 2nd Battalion of the South Lancashire Regiment (number 32339). I have not been able to confirm further details of his military service, other than that he survived the war. George married Emily Priscilla Foster in Cannock in 1926, but I have not been able to confirm details of any children. George died on 19 February 1960, but which date his address was 23 Melverton Avenue, Wolverhampton. The value of his effects was £187 18s. 6d.
