The son of Harry and Harriet Carver, Jeffrey was born in Wolverhampton on 19 July 1915. In 1939, he was living with his parents at 39 Lonsdale Road, Wolverhampton, and his occupation was given as “Assistant to Father”, who was a builders merchant, one of the Carver company who are still in operation today. Jeffrey married Joyce Lindley in Pwllheli, Wales in 1941, and they had a son, Michael B., in 1941 – he appears to have been registered twice the same year, in March and in September.

Jeffrey served as a Private with the 2nd Battalion Infantry of the North Staffordshire Regiment (The Prince of Wales) (service number 7910628). Jeffrey was killed in action on 23 April 1943 on war service in Tunisia, North Africa, when his address was listed as 11-16 Stafford Street (this address is actually the Carvers business premises). The value of his effects was £27487 19s. 9d. Jeffery is remembered at the Medjez-El-Bab Memorial in Tunisia, and is listed on the roll of honour of St Paul’s Church, now within St John’s Church, Wolverhampton.
