Walter was born in Wolverhampton in 1890, the son of Aquilla and Susan Alice Arnold. He was baptised at St Mark’s Church on 7 September 1890. They were living at 121 Ormes Lane, Tettenhall, in 1891, together with Walter’s brother, Alpheus. By 1911, Walter was a lodger in the home of Rebecca Poulton at the Back of 24 Wesley Street, Wolverhampton. He was working as a tube heater at a nut and bolt works. Walter married Louisa Rafferty in Wolverhampton in 1914, and the couple had two children, Jane A. (1914) and Louisa (1915).
He served with the Yorkshire Regiment (service number 31055), before being transferred to the Northern Command Labour Centre of the Labour Corps (service number 12639). He died in 14 July 1918 in the General Hospital in Wolverhampton. His wife remarried to a Henry Jones in Wolverhampton in 1919, and her address was given as 2 Wesley Street, Bilston Road, Wolverhampton. He is buried at Wolverhampton Borough Cemetery.
