Ernest was born in Wolverhampton in 1899, the son of Henrietta and George Gallimore. In 1901 they were living at 11 Beacon Street, Wolverhampton, and had moved to Lichfield by 1911.
Ernest enlisted in the Royal Army Service Corps (number M/295814), before transferring to the 2nd Battalion of the Prince of Wales’s Own (West Yorkshire Regiment) (number 52974). He was wounded, and died of these wounds on 14 April 1918. He is buried at the St. Sever Cemetery Extension in Rouen
