Lilian was born in Wolverhampton in 1879. The names of her parents is unclear, as on the 1881 census, living at 29 Grove Street, Whitmore Reans, in the home of Henry and Sarah Manley, she is listed as “adopted”. As her birth registration is in the name of “Lilian Thompson Manley”, she was presumably adopted at birth. By 1901, Henry Manley had died, so Lilian was living with Sarah, and Sarah’s daughters, Ellen, Annie and Lizzie, at 14 Haden Hill, Wolverhampton. Lilian had become a school teacher.
During the war, Lilian worked as a special police woman in Wolverhampton. She does not appear to have ever married, and died in Mansfield in 1936.
