Alexander was born in Wolverhampton in 1899, the son of Luke and Mary L. Lawrence. In 1901, they were living at 17 Frederick Street, Heath Town, Wolverhampton, along with Alexander’s siblings Martha Helen, Frank, Violet, Mary L., May, and Eva. By 1911, they were living at Laurel Villa, Tudor Road, Heath Town, and had an additional two children, Archibald and Winnifred.
Alexander enlisted in the 1st/4th Battalion of the Northumberland Fusiliers (number 66533), but was killed in action on 12 May 1918. He is buried at La Ville-aux-Bois British Cemetery.
