George was born in Shrewsbury in 1860. He married Mary Lacey in Rugby in 1882, and they had seven children – William, Lacey, Olinda, Cecil Douglas, Harold Joe, Arthur Augustus and Norman Leslie. They were living at 58 Compton Road, Wolverhampton, by 1901, when George was a tailors manager. Mary died in 1902, and George remarried Eleanor Ann Hancher in 1906, and they had a daughter, Josephine Hancher. By 1911, they were living at 11 Princess Street, Wolverhampton, and George was a tailor dealer.
Whilst George’s sons served during the First World War, he himself, at the age of 54 in 1914, was too old to fight. However, he became a Special Constable in Wolverhampton, and served as a Sergeant. George survived the war, and died in Wolverhampton in 1939.
