Isaiah was born in Dudley on 10 December 1878, the son of Isaiah and Hannah Ward. On 31 May 1903, he married Emily Cole at St Luke’s Church, Dudley, and by 1911 the couple were living with Emily’s daughter, Florence Cole, at The Scotlands, Wednesfield, Wolverhampton. Isaiah was a coal miner and hewer.
On 28 December 1914, Isaiah enlisted as a Driver with the Royal Field Artillery (service number 31548). His address was given as Albert Villa, Cannock Road, The Scotlands. and his trade was collier, working for the Hollybank Colliery Company, Essington, Wolverhampton. He served in France until 1918, when he was released to the Army Reserve for coal mining purposes.
He survived the war, and died in Wolverhampton in 1964.
