Thomas was born in Droitwich, Worcestershire, in 1886, the son of Emma and Charles Farmer. In 1907, he married Ethel May Grosvenor in Wolverhampton, and by 1911 the couple were living at the Post Office, the Wergs, Tettenhall, Wolverhampton, with two sons, Reginald and Frederick. Thomas was working as a jobbing domestic gardener.
Thomas enlisted in the 8th Battalion of the King’s Own (Yorkshire Light Infantry) (service number 31745). He was killed in action on 8 June 1917. He is remembered at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial, as well as on the war memorial of St Michael and All Angels’ Church in Tettenhall.
