The son of Richard and Sarah Jane Bradshaw, Alfred was born in Wolverhampton in 1891. They were living at 92 Inkerman Street, Wolverhampton in 1901. By 1911, the family were living at 12 Dean Street, Heath Town, together with Alfred’s brother, Thomas Richard. Alfred was working as a clerk in the egg and yeast trade.
Alfred did not serve with the colours during the First World War, but did work as a Special Constable in Wolverhampton. Alfred died on 22 November 1918, by which date his address was 22 Maxwell Road. The fact that he died at the age of only 27 indicates that he may have been suffering from ill health, which might explain why he did not enlist. The value of his effects was £182 8s. 11d.
