Harold was born in Wolverhampton in 1899, the son of Frank and Susannah Yardley. In 1901, they were living at 11 Shipton Street, Wolverhampton, with Harold’s siblings Frank and May. They were at 29 Union Mill Street by 1911, with an additional two children – James, and Mable.
Harold enlisted in the 1st/8th Battalion of the Lancashire Fusiliers (number 57133). He was killed in action on 27 September 1918 in France. He is buried at Ribecourt Road Cemetery, Trescault, in France,
