The son of Edward and Alice, William was born in Wolverhampton in 1895. In 1901, they were living at 4 Court, Faulkland Street, Wolverhampton, together with William’s siblings Edward J., Eva R., Leonard F. and Arthur Austin. They were living at 24 Hughes Street by 1911, along with two further children, Clara Evelyn and Hilda May. William was working as an Out Porter for a boot manufacturers.
William enlisted in the 1st Battalion of the Bedfordshire Regiment (number 47366). He was killed in action on 6 November 1918, exactly one hundred years ago today. He is buried at the Pont-Sur-Sambre Communal Cemetery in France.
