Born in 1884 in Wolverhampton, Oliver was the son of John and Elizabeth Branford. By 1911, he was living with his brother, Alfred, in Birmingham, and was working as a general dealer’s man.

Oliver enlisted with the 9th Battalion of the Royal Warwickshire Regiment (number 10378). Unfortunately, he died in hospital in Gallipoli on 12 September 1915. He is buried in the East Mudros Military Cemetery in Greece.
