John (mainly known as Thomas) was born in about 1877 in Wolverhampton. He married Mary Flatley in Aston in 1900. In 1901, the couple were living at 54 Charles Street, Wolverhampton. Thomas was a bobber working for a cycle works. By 1901 they were living at 1 House, 8 Court No 8, Littles Lane, Wolverhampton, with three children – Joseph, Thomas and Catherine. The couple had a further three children – John (1911), Dominic (1913) and Mary (1915).
Thomas enlisted as a Private in the South Staffordshire Regiment (service number 11621). He first served in France from 12 August 1915. He was wounded and was discharged on 3 July 1918. He was issued the Silver War Badge (number 420340) on 29 June 1918, but died later the same year.
