Dave Fletcher has shared these details about his great-uncle:

William was born in Wolverhampton in 1896, the son of William John and Betsy Ann Fletcher. In 1901 the family were living at 18 Park Street South, Wolverhampton, and William was joined by his sisters Lucy Agnes and Ivy Madeleine, and brothers Harold Ernest, Oscar and Bernard. By 1911, the family were at 119 Upper Villiers Street. William’s mother had died, and his father remarried Mabel Edith Fallon in 1906. This meant that, as well as his siblings named above, the household now included William’s step-sisters Gertrude Mabel and Norah Regina Fallon, and step-brother Dennis James Fallon. William was now a warehouseman in the hardware industry.

On 1 October 1916, William enlisted in the Lincolnshire Regiment (number 31259). He fell ill, and unfortunately, he died at the 4th Northern General Hospital in Lincoln on 7 March 1917. He is buried in St Philip’s Churchyard, Penn Fields.
