gandy - johnThe fifth and youngest Gandy brother mention in the Midland Counties Express article, John, enlisted in March 1915 at the age of 17. in the King’s Own Scottish Borderers.

John was born in Wolverhampton on 25 April 1898, and was the only son still with his parents in 1911, at 14 Ashland Street, Wolverhampton. He enlisted on 24 March 1915, serving first with the King’s Own Scottish Borderers (number 18561) and later with the Labour Corps (450515). He became sick, and was discharged on 12 February 1919. He was awarded a Silver War Badge (number B325082) on 27 October 1919.

I have not been able to confirm whether he married or had children, but he died in Wolverhampton on 10 January 1973. By this date, his address was 57 Hylstone Crescent, Wednesfield, and he left effects to the value of £637.
