Archibald was born in Worcestershire in 1893, the son of George Edward and Susan Andrews. In 1901 they were living at Upper Mitton, Worcestershire, along with Archibald’s siblings Elsie Mary, Edith H., Mary Eliza, Wilfrid Arthur, Patience Amelia and Hilda May. At some point, Archibald moved to Wolverhampton.
He enlisted at Warrington in the 1st Battalion of the Scots Guards (number 9173), first serving in France from 4 November 1914. However, he was killed in action on 25 January 1915. He is commemorated at the Le Touret Memorial.
