This story has been shared by Tina Kelly, about her great-aunt’s family:

*********************************************************

Albert (Bertie) Bowyer (Jul 1887- 3 Sep 1967) married Emma Elizabeth (Lizzie) Poulson (1896-1985). She was the sister of my grandfather, Harry Frederick (Fred) Poulson. He was, judging by insignia in photo I have, an officer in the Royal Welch Fusiliers, but I can find no records. His remaining family were as follows:

  • Brother Dennis James Bowyer (Jan 1890- 8 Aug 1951) m Eva Kate Pickering (1894-1974) in Hemel Hempstead on 5 Feb 1921. Only medal card info found was for the Royal Field Artillery regmt no 174024. He was fined in 1949 for an unlicensed radio set (addr: Warwick House, Station Rd, Hawkhurst, Kent) (Sevenoaks Chronicle and Kentish Advertiser). There are reports of him at dog shows in Yorkshire, Bedfordshire, Somerset.
  • Parents Walter Thomas Bowyer (1864-1950) and Harriet Love (1869-1950); they married Jul quarter 1889.
  • Brother Horace Leonard Bowyer (Jan 1892- 31 May 1961) m Felicia Bunn (1886-1969) in Jan 1914. According to his medal card and award roll he was a Corporal in the Machine Gun Corps Regimental Number: 101856 Sub Unit: (Cavalry) Previous Units: Staffs. Yeo. 3004, 3 R.C.R. 300302, MGC (Cav) 101856 Pte. He was awarded the British War Medal but there is a note on the record: BW Medal returned (undisposed of).
  • Brother Vincent Julian Bowyer (Apr 1894-Sep 1964) m Alice E Perry (1894-?) Sep 1919. Medal card: Private Medal Awarded: British War Medal and Victory Medal Regiment or Corps: Army Service Corps Regimental Number: SS/1612 Previous Units: R.A.S.C. SS/1612 Private. Pension Record for him gives more detail, including his discharge as being medically unfit in 1916. Started out as a piano tuner, but in later years was a beer retailer (50 Salop Street), and took part in swimming events in the 1920s, repeatedly on committees relating to swimming clubs (Staffordshire Advertiser 1930s).
  • Sister Maude Florence Bowyer (12 Aug 1899 – 15 Mat 1993) m Leslie John Nash (1903-1992) on 6 Sep 1937.
