Ernest was born in Wolverhampton in 1900, the son of Emma Thomason. In 1901 he was living at Court 1, St Peter’s Square, where his mother was the housekeeper, together with his brother Charles and sister Frances. I have not been able to find a record of Ernest’s father, but by 1911 Ernest was living at 9 Art Street, Wolverhampton, with his mother (now Emma Andrews, although I have not been able to confirm details of her marriage), and he was listed as the “adopted son” of A. E. Andrews, the head of the household.
Ernest enlisted in the 5th Battalion of the Devonshire Regiment (number 72150), but was killed in action on 30 August 1918. He is commemorated on the Vis-En-Artois Memorial in France.
