The brother of William Joseph Gamston, Edward was born in Wolverhampton in 1894. By 1911, Edward was a general labourer at an iron works.
Edward served first with the South Staffordshire Regiment (number 9208), disembarking on 12 August 1914. He later moved to the Lincolnshire Regiment (number 107012) and finally the Somerset Light Infantry (number 41139). The article in the Midland Counties Express about his brother, dated 6 January 1917, mentioned that he had been wounded in action twice, but he appears to have survived the war.
Edward married Alice Roberts in Wolverhampton in 1915, but the couple do not appear to have had any children. Edward died in Wolverhampton at the age of 58 in 1951.
