George was born in Wolverhampton in 1885, the son of George and Mary Churm (nee Evans). In 1891 they were at Court 3, Ward Street, with George’s sister, Elizabeth. By 1901, George and his sister were going by their mother’s maiden name, and they lived with their parents at 65 York Street, together with additional siblings William, Harry, Florence and Mary. Again under his mother’s maiden name, he married Edith M. Blower in 1913, and they had two children, Thomas and Edith.
George enlisted with the 2nd Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment (number 7507). He died of wounds in France on 17 September 1914 and is buried at Soupir Churchyard. He left a widow, Edith May, at 41 Alma Street, Heath Town, but I have been unable to find a record of their marriage.
