George Mellsome or Millsome Addison was born in Wolverhampton in 1894, the son of George and Annie Addison. In 1901 they were living at 58 Cannock Road, Heath Town, together with George’s brother Albert, sister Margaret, and a visitor, Phoebe Addison. Before the outbreak of war, George worked for Messrs. J. Baker and Sons Ltd in Cleveland Road.
In 1915, George joined the 5th Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment as a Private, and rose to become Second Lieutenant. He became a first class shot and won the medal in a platoon competition. He saw considerable service in France and in Italy. On 9 August 1918, he died in Italy from wounds received in action. The Express & Star reported this occurrence on 16 August 1918. George is buried at the Cavalletto British Cemetery, and is commemorated on the memorial at Heath Park.
