William Leason was born in Heath Town, Wolverhampton, in 1886, the son of Henry and Elizabeth Leason. In 1901 they were at 11 Bush Street, together with William’s sisters, Ann, Edith and Harriet, and brother Henry.

William enlisted in the South Staffordshire Regiment (number 240408) and attained the rank of Corporal. He was awarded the Military Medal, announced in the Gazette on 19 September 1917 and in the Express & Star a day later. William survived the war, and married Elsie M. Bailey in 1919. They appear to have had four children – Violet, Norman, Lillian and Leslie – born in Uttoxeter and Burton between 1919 and 1922. I have not been able to confirm details of William’s death.
