Joseph William Banks was born in Wolverhampton in 1887 (he was listed as “Joseph Willie” in the General Register Office index). He married Elizabeth Wilkes in 1904, and they had a son, Bert, born in 1910. By 1911, they were living at 83 Powell Street, Park Village, and Joseph had become a keysmith.
Joseph enlisted in the Coldstream Guards (number 18447). He was awarded the Military Medal, as reported in both the London Gazette on 28 January 1918 and the Express & Star on 29 January 1918. He appears to have survived the war, but I have not been able to find any further details about this man.
