mongerJoseph Monger was born in Wolverhampton in 1891, the son of Sarah and Thomas Monger. By 1901 they were living at 37 Old Mill Street, together with Joseph’s brother Ernest and sister Florence.

Joseph enlisted in the 2nd Battalion of the Royal Scots Fusiliers (number 10648). He was killed in action on 23 October 1914, and he was featured in the Express & Star on 5 December 1914. The brief article also mentions that his brother Ernest, serving with the 1st South Staffordshire Regiment, was wounded in the same battle. Another brother, J. Monger, is also mentioned, who is serving in South Africa. He is commemorated at the Ypres (Menin Gate) Memorial.
