John William Gallear, born in Wolverhampton in 1896, is the younger brother of Noah Gallear, who has already been featured on this blog.
John enlisted in the 1st/5th Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment and became a Sergeant (number 240099). On 28 May 1917, it was reported in the Express & Star, under a list of local casualties, that he had been wounded. Whether he recovered from these wounds and later received more, or whether he succumbed to these wounds, he died on 5 October 1918. He is buried at Tincourt New British Cemetery in France.
