Charles Henry Tomlinson was born in Wolverhampton in 1891, the son of Charles and Selina Tomlinson. In 1901, they were living at 209 Charles Street, together with Charles’s brothers Howard and Joseph, and sisters Ethel, Henrietta, and Sarah. Charles was educated at St Thomas’s Church Schools in Wednesfield, and later worked in the clerical department of the Sunbeam Motor Works at Moorfield. Selina Tomlinson died in 1907 at the age of 54.
In November 1915 he enlisted as a Sapper with the 88th Field Company of the Royal Engineers (number 107868). He was wounded, and died from those wounds on 15 September 1917. He is commemorated at Baghdad (North Gate) War Cemetery, and was featured in the Midland Counties Express on 6 October 1917. He also appears on the Wednesfield Village Roll of Honour.
