moore-jackJohn (usually known as Jack) was born in Wolverhampton in 1891, the son of Harriet Elizabeth and Edwin Moore. In 1901 he was living with his parents at 88 Bushbury Road, Heath Town, Wolverhampton, along with siblings William G., Harry, Walter, Albert and Leah. They were at the same address in 1911, with additional child, Eric. Jack was working as a tool fitter.

Jack enlisted in the 1st/6th Battalion of the South Staffordshire Regiment (number 2344). He first served in France from 5 March 1915. He was wounded, and died on 4 May 1915 at the No. 8 Casualty Clearing Station. He was featured in the Midland Counties Express on 22 May 1915, which gave the circumstances surrounding his death. A similar article also appeared in the Express & Star on 18 May 1915. He was taking food up to the trenches when he was shot in the head, and died in hospital from this wound. His home address was given as 63 Prestwood Road, Heath Town, Wolverhampton. He is buried at the Bailleul Communal Cemetery Extension, Nord, in France, and is remembered on the memorial at Heath Park. He was also featured in the Express & Star on 7 August 1916 in a list of local heroes who had died.
