There is a T. Ashton listed on the roll of honour of the Weldless Steel Tube Company Ltd, as having been an employee of the company who served in the First World War.
Thomas Alfred Ashton was born in Wolverhampton in 1883. In the 1901 census, he appears at 14 Grosvenor Street, together with his parents George and Emma, brother John and sisters Annie and Florence. In 1914, he married Annie L. Haycock, and the couple went on to have two children, Dorothy A. (1914) and Donald A. (1917).
Finding details of his service during the War, or indeed finding any other information has proved more difficult, including confirming whether or not this is the man listed on the roll of honour. The National Archives has the medal cards of two Thomas A. Ashtons, one in the Army Cyclist Corps and one in the Royal Welsh Fusiliers, but it has many more that are just listed as “Thomas Ashton”. Any more information about this man would be gratefully received!
