Yesterday, we featured the wedding of Ernest Jones and Beatrice Deakin, at St Philip’s Church, Penn Fields, in 1915. The bride’s brother, George S., was also involved in the First World War.

George Stanley Deakin was born in 1896. On the 1901 census he is living at 26 Thompson Street in Bilston with his parents, Joseph and Florence, sister Beatrice and brother Ernest, along with a boarder, Joseph Harriman. By 1911, he has become a junior clerk, and the family have moved to Westbourne Road, in Penn (where the wedding photograph was taken). The household now consists of George, his parents, brother “Earnest” and sister Florence Vera.

During the course of the War, George served with the Staffordshire Yeomanry (service number 2628) and the Corps of Hussars (number 300087). In 1924, George married an Edna M. Beardmore, and it appears that they may have moved away from Wolverhampton and had two children, Brian and Roger.
